As we celebrate our Independence this 4th of July, we invite you to vacation with us here in Steamboat Springs! Join us as we enjoy our annual parade, block party, tons of fun, and other coinciding events. This long-standing celebration is rich in tradition and local culture. During this four-day extravaganza, we not only honor our founding fathers but our local western culture that many have come to love about Colorado.  We’re excited to share with you our annual independence day festivities and traditions.

We kick off this year's 119th Annual event with the Steamboat Pro Rodeo Series. This time-honored tradition is not only the official kick-off to an amazing weekend holiday but also the start of summer here in Steamboat. Every Friday and Saturday night, the Brent Romick Arena comes to life as cowboys and cowgirls kick up a little dust and make a lot of noise as they keep the Western tradition and culture alive.

There’s plenty to keep the kiddos entertained, from rodeo clowns to rodeo games. Delight in the laughter and youthful chatter during the Calf and Ram Scramble. This fun event gathers the children from the crowd and offers them a unique way to participate - by chasing the calf or sheep to collect the ribbon lightly tied to their tail. What a cute and unique keepsake for them to remember their visit with. Of course, a Rodeo isn’t complete without other fun events, like Bull Riding - a thrilling eight-second show of mid-air kicking, jumping, and bucking as the bull tries to throw the rider off its back. Barrel Racing is another highly skilled event where cowboys or cowgirls maneuver their horses through a maze of barrels—testing their endurance, speed, and precision. For a complete list of rodeo events, be sure to visit here

Start your 4th of July morning with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by our local Lions Club. This delicious event is always a fun start to the day. Though tempting, don’t overindulge as you'll want to be sure to save room for all the candy and treats that will be in abundance during the parade later in the morning. Once there, you can enjoy the thoughtfully creative planned floats cruising down Yampa Street. All are eagerly waiting to debut their themed floats in hopes of being this year's parade day winner. Be sure to join us after for a good old-fashioned block party!

Though our traditional firework show has been canceled due to community and wildlife safety concerns, our weekend celebration is still packed with all the fun events and activities we’ve all come to enjoy over the years. Watch as Downtown comes to life with a selection of vendors offering a delicious assortment of food trucks, and local artisans and crafters mixed in.
